07/06/2009 - NWA CLAIMS 2 TITLES...

On a hot July 4th weekend in Austin, 50 teams representing 17 leagues across Texas, battled for the title of State Champion at the 2009 Little Miss Kickball State All Star Tournament. The tournament, which drew huge crowds, was filled with high quality play, thrilling finishes and temps that consistently topped the century mark! Action photos from the tournament are now available!

In both the Junior and Senior divisions, NWA fought off strong challengers in the Championship games to claim the Title. In the Teenage division NWA fell just short of the title by taking Second Place in the tournament. The overall Tournament Results are as follows:

JUNIOR DIVISION:
  • First Place - Northwest Austin
  • Second Place - Brownsville North
  • Third Place - Southside
  • SENIOR DIVISION:
  • First Place - Northwest Austin
  • Second Place - OSO
  • Third Place - East Brownsville
  • TEENAGE DIVISION:
  • First Place - Northwest Corpus Christi
  • Second Place - Northwest Austin
  • Third Place - Laguna
  • Congratulations to all and thanks for participating in the State All Star Tournament!

7/02/2009 - LET THE GAMES BEGIN...

It's Tournament time! Put away the practice gear and get your game face on, cause it's time to take the field and make a statement. Little Miss Kickball teams from around the state are descending upon Austin to compete in the 2009 LMK State All Star Tournament hosted by NWA Kickball. Things get "kicked" into high gear on Thursday night with the traditional Opening Ceremonies at the Delco Center at 6:00pm but the real fun begins on Friday morning at 8:00am when all 4 fields get busy as the first games hit the red sand at NWA! Come on out and support not only NWA, but all the leagues, as they compete for the State Championship title!

6/27/2009 - Things are falling into place - VOLUNTEERS still needed!

Hosting any tournament is no small undertaking, but hosting the LMK State All Star Tournament is HUGE! The number of tasks and amount of time it takes to get everything ready is beyond compare. Luckily, NWA has strong support from its Board, players, parents, friends and area businesses to help make the mountain of tasks somewhat manageable!

With only a fews days left before all our fellow kickball leagues from around the state descend on Austin and the NWA Fields, things have really begun to take shape for the tournament. Although the most visibile area of preparation is the light poles that have been erected around the fields, there are many, many aspects that have already been addressed by a dedicated group of volunteers who have worked tirelessly over the past few weeks to help make this tournament a success. However, we still need help - mostly with tournament day volunteers! Please step up to the plate and spend a few hours working at the fields during the tournament!

6/2/2009 - NWA Closes Season in Style...

On Tuesday, June 2, NWA officially brought the 2009 regular season to an end with the annual Closing Ceremonies & Awards presentations. Players and coaches from all teams were recognized for their contributions to the game and the success of the 2009 season. Over $10,000 was awarded to graduating high school seniors as part of the NWA Scholarship program. Throughout the years the scholarship program has contributed in excess of $50,000 to the educational pursuits of our players.

In addition to the regular season and scholarship awards, All Star teams in the Junior, Senior and Teenage divisions were announced. These players, selected by the coaches within their respective divisions, will represent NWA in the 2009 Little Miss Kickball State All Star Tournament held July 3-5 right here at NWA. Plan to come out and support these players in their quest for a State Championship and please get involved by VOLUNTEERING to help with the tournament!

05/31/2009 - We Still Need Your Help!

The 2009 Little Miss Kickball State All Star Tournament, being hosted by NWA July 2-5, is just over a month away! While many aspects of the planning are completed or well under the way, our biggest challenge is to have enough volunteers on hand to help the tournament run smoothly! We are counting on all NWA families to get involved with this event since it is a great opportunity to showcase just what kind of a league NWA is! Please contact Merry Ann Southwell (mjsouthwell@austin.rr.com) for more information, with any questions or to volunteer.

We'll need help July 2 with Opening Ceremonies and throughout the actual tournament play with concessions, merchandise sales, clean up, field preparation, parking control and many, many more things. We need everyone to get involved! If you are a member of a church group or a school-related club or spirit organization, this is an excellent way to earn community service credit hours. Please get involved and help us make this a memorable event for all participants and spectators! Thanks in advance for your support!

05/30/2009 - POST SEASON TOURNAMENT RESULTS

It was a bright sunny Saturday spent at the kickball fields for the Annual NWA Post Season Tournament for the Junior and Senior divisions. The tournament actually began on Friday for the Juniors but finished up today with some exciting kickball!

The final results from the Post Season Tournament are as follows:
    JUNIORS:
  • First Place - The Hurricanes (Gallen)
  • Second Place - The Ninas (Amaro)
  • Third Place - The Gators (Matthews)
  • SENIORS:
  • First Place - The Popsicles (Southwell)
  • Second Place - The Crush (Hinojosa)
  • Third Place - KaBoom (Adams)
  • Congratulations to all and thanks for participating today and for helping out in so many ways throughout the season!

     5/28/2009 - It's Post Season Time!

Congratulations to the following teams for their first place finishes in the Regular Season:

  • Juniors: The Gators (Matthews)
  • Seniors: KaBoom (Adams)
  • Teenage: The Rebels (Johnson)
  • The Post Season Tournament for the Junior and Senior Divisions take place beginning Friday (5/29) with the first round of Junior games. Seniors will play their bracket on Saturday (5/30). Come on out to support these two divisions and cheer all of them on as they help bring the 2009 Regular Season to a close. The final EOS Tournament draws have been posted on the Main Schedules page. Click here for the Junior bracket and here for the Senior bracket.

05/23/2009 - Final Week of 2009 Kickball Season

The final week of the 2009 Kickball Regular Season is upon us! It seems that it was only a few weeks ago when players were learning which team they were on and practices were just beginning! My how the time has flown by! Week 9 promises to be the best yet!

Congratulations to Jason Matthews' Gators who seem to have locked up 1st Place in the Regular Season. It appears 2nd and 3rd places are up in the air with Bob Gallen's Hurricanes battling with Kathleen McKay's Krazy Kiwis. Although the two teams do not play each other head-to-head in this final week, each still have a couple of games that will determine the final seedings.

In the Senior Division, the race for 1st Place is about as close at it can be. Kevin Adams' KaBoom team holds a slim 1/2-game lead over Merry Ann Southwell's Popsicles with one game remaining for each. Again no "head-to-head, winner take all" game remains, but it is still coming down to the wire for both teams. Which will get the top seed for the End of Season Tournament? Come out to the fields and see for yourself!

The Teenage Division is even closer than the Seniors. Since the Teenagers play in Interleague District play, there are additional vairables thrown into the mix, but still two NWA teams sit atop the Division standings with identical records. John Hughes' Ice Breakers (Grey) and Randy Johnson's Rebels (Charcoal) are locked in a battle for 1st! Each team has two games left with one being a head-to-head match up on Tuesday night that could determine the final standings for the Division. Certainly this game will prove to be worth the price of admission (oh wait, we don't charge an admission fee!).

Just 'cause the games end doesn't mean we're finished! We will have Closing Ceremonies on Tuesday, June 2. We are still trying to confirm the location but we expect it to be at the Murchinson Middle School Gym. We'll confirm as soon as we know for sure. Regardless of the location, plan on PeeWee and Rookie Divisions gathering at 6:00pm and Junior, Senior and Teenage Divisons coming in at 7:15pm. Players in all divisions will be recognized and awards presented. We're also inviting our Team, Field and League Sponsors to attend to be recognized as well.

Thanks for all you've done to help NWA Kickball enjoy another successful regular season. As you know, we're hosting this year's All Star Tournament in July so make your plans now to get involved and help make it a success as well! Contact Merry Ann Southwell (mjsouthwell@austin.rr.com) to sign up or for more information. We need all the help we can get!

     5/18/2009 - All Star Tryouts

Congratulations to all who were nominated as an All Star Candidate and thanks for participating in the All Star Tryouts this weekend. We appreciate your willingness to represent NWA during the State All Star Tournament this July (to be hosted by NWA). Thank you for being flexible with respect to the schedules this past weekend. Mother Nature made it a bit more challenging on Saturday with some much needed rain, but due to the hardwork of the field crew, tryouts went off without a problem on Sunday.

05/12/2009 - NWA Scholarship Application Deadline Approaching!

The deadline for graduating seniors to submit an NWA Scholarship application is Friday, May 15! Applications should be sent to the Player Agent, Bertie Hinojosa. They can be dropped off at the Concessions Stand and placed in the Player Agent's box. The same application form submitted to Little Miss Kickball Corporation can be submitted to NWA for Scholarship consideration.

     4/30/2009 - Health and Safety

As an organization, one of our key focal points is on the continued health and safety of the players, coaches and spectators that make up our league. We are aware of the current situation regarding the Swine Flu outbreak throughout Texas and other parts of North America and are monitoring the situation closely. We will take the necessary and appropriate precautions with respect to our games and will follow the guidelines / recommendations set forth by the local heath organizations. At this point in time, however, game play will continue as scheduled.

We ask that everyone do their part to help with this. Please see that your players are vigilant about personal hygiene - especially washing their hands! Discourage the sharing of water bottles, cell phones, etc.. If there is a player on your team who is not feeling well, instruct them to stay home until they are feeling better. Do not allow them to participate in games, practices or other team gatherings until they are well.

    04/26/2009 - Mid-Season Success!

NWA enjoyed good success during this weekend's District IV Mid-Season Tournament.  We hosted strong, spirited play on Saturday during the initial day for the Junior and Teenage divisions.  All teams participating put forth good efforts and represented their leagues well!

All Championship games were played on Sunday at UHO.  NWA made a clean sweep in Juniors, finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and also captured 2nd place finishes in both the Senior and Teenage divisions.  Congratulations not only to these teams for finishing so well, but to all teams participating in the tournament on a job well done!

    04/23/2009 - Mid-Season Tournament Brackets Posted

The brackets for the 2009 District IV Mid-Season Tournament have been finalized and are available through the NWA Website. UHO is hosting this year's tournament but Junior and Teenage divisions will play at the NWA Fields on Saturday and then join the Seniors at UHO for the final rounds on Sunday. Click the Mid-Season link or use the NWA Website menu to access the info (2009 Events ==> Special Events ==> Mid-Season Tourney). Good luck to all who participate in the tournament!

    04/18/2009 - Field Status for Sunday 4/19

Although the fields took on a lot on water on Friday and Saturday, they appear to be usable for practices on Sunday. Please use caution since they could still be a little soft and muddy.

    04/14/2009 - Picture Perfect

Wednesday, April 15th is photo retake day for NWA. If your team was unable to take photos on Opening Day, contact Irene Brown to determine the time for your retakes or for any other team picture question.

04/06/2009 - LMK Scholarship Application Deadline Approaching

The April 15 deadline to submit an LMK Scholarship Application is fast approaching. Calendar image The application form can be found on the Forms and Helpful Information page on the NWA Website. If you are a graduating high school senior, you may be awarded a scholarship from the Little Miss Kickball Organization. NWA Kickball also awards scholarships and you can use the same application, however the due date for submitting an application to NWA is not until May 15

4/04/2009 - "Kick it to the Alamo"

NWA Cheer Kampers PhotoThe sun shone brightly on the NWA Kickball fields on Saturday for the first annual NWA PeeWee-Rookie Celebration Saturday. The day was devoted to PeeWee and Rookie games as well as a Kickball Cheer Kamp led by NWA “Big Sisters”.NWA Big Sisters PhotoDuring the Cheer Kamp, PeeWee and Rookie players were taught kickball cheers (listed on the forms and helpful info page) by players and coaches from numerous upper division teams. The Kamp ended with an all out cheer-off that combined all participants onto one field for very loud, but very spirited chant of “NWA all the Way!”

The Tobinator PhotoThanks to all who participated in today’s activities and those that helped get the fields ready. A very special thank you goes out to Tobin Holden, Penny McRoberts, Cynthia Bargsley and Irene Brown for helping pull the whole event together.

3/28/2009 - NWA Opening Day Recap

NWA Porcupines PhotoOn sunny but cold, wind-swept Saturday morning, NWA Kickball 2009 got into full gear. Instead of "lions and tigers and bears" we had Love NWA Love Bugs PhotoBugs, Funky Monkeys and Gumballs as the season got off to a great start. Thanks to all who braved the cold to come out and support the league, either by preparing the fields, coordinating the team photos or cheering on their teams.  We had great crowds, enthusiastic fans and energized players help get NWA moving in the right direction for 2009.

Our long delayed kickball order is expected to arrive this weekend. Our first priority will be to get kickballs to the coaches who have waited patiently while still trying to hold practices. Then we'll fill the orders from Player-Parent night. Thanks to all for your patience during this extended delay. Once we have the kickballs in hand, we'll arrange a distribution time.

    03/01/2009 - NWA's Walk of Pride expanded!

Thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers this winter, the new bricks for NWA's Walk of Pride have been installed. The area just in front of Concession stand was created during the 2003 season and was expanded as part of our fundraising efforts during the 2008 season. Please stop by and admire the bricks and the handy work! Contact NWA Kickball if you are interested in creating a brick for your daughter, her team or as a coaches gift (hint, hint).

2/28/2009 - Player development a huge success in spite of cold, wind

NWA's annual Player Development clinics were met with more than cold temperatures and gusty winds today as many players, coaches and parents came out to scratch the dirt for the first time. Thanks to all who braved the elements to join in these fun and educational activities. Thanks as well to Tobin Holden, Jason Matthews and Kat Fuentes for coordinating today's clinics.

Team practices may officially begin on Sunday, March 1. Please check the Pre-Season Practice schedule for the assigned time slots for your team and be courteous to the teams practicing before and after your windows of time by not getting on the field until your assigned time and by vacating a field promptly at the end of your practice time.

10/20/2008 - Walk of Pride Update

The expansion of the NWA walk of Pride, which so many of you willingly supported, is still a work in progress. Our brick vendor had trouble finding a good color match to the existing bricks which resulted in a delay in the preparation of our brick order. Our plans were to pick up the bricks during October and install them by Thanksgiving, but due to the delay, the bricks will not be ready for pick up until late November. We're still looking at the calendar to determine when the install date can be scheduled.

Thanks for your support of this effort. The success of this campaign is attributed directly to you!
